PhilSCAT exhibits program banners in Lakbay Palay

Philippine-Sino Center for Agricultural Technology (PhilSCAT) participated in the Lakbay Palay 2019 Wet Season at the Philippine Rice Research Institute, Science City of Muñoz, Nueva Ecija on October 3-4, 2019.

PhilSCAT served as one of the exhibitors, promoting its public hybrid rice namely Mestiso 38, Mestiso 82, P8, and P12.

For this season, the Lakbay Palay’s theme is focused on the use of quality seeds. Activities for this two-day event included farm visits, distribution of rice knowledge products, and on-site expert dialogue/consultation.

Lea Abaoag, technology management head of PhilRice said, “ang labanan po ngayon ay hindi Magsasakang Pilipino laban sa Magsasakang Pilipino, ang labanan po ngayon ay Magsasakang Pilipino laban sa taga ibang bansa gaya ng India, Thailand, China, at iba pa. Kailangan po natin sumabay o makipag kompitensya sa ibang bansa.”

PhilSCAT featured the PhilSCAT developed hybrid rice varieties and lines that can boost production and income of farmers.

To answer the queries and share innovative ideas that are beneficial to the agriculture and to the rice farmers, Farmer’s Forum and Palaytalakayan were conducted wherein representatives from PHilMech, PhilRice, and Landbank joined the said forum.

Moreover, the various agencies presented their current and upcoming projects for the coming years.

PhilSCAT was able to cater 334 participants who received different IEC materials anticipated to greatly help them in hybrid rice production.

The said event carries the theme: “Malakas ang Ani, Mataas ang Kita”, the program focused on the Four strategies: Quality Rice; Use of Farm Machineries and Lower the Inputs Cost; High Investment and Bank Loan Services for Farmers; and Training Courses offered for farmers.

Lakbay Palay is a bi-annual field day organized by PhilRice. Hundreds of farmers also visited the center to learn more about the new technologies on rice farming production, different agricultural products. BZMunar and RSSantiago
